DESIGNING ELMED (ENGLISH LISTENED MENTALLY DISABLE) MEDIA FOR STUDENT SMALB MUHAMMADIYAH JOMBANG.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to enhace the listening skills of mentally disable student and assist them in learning English. The study focuses on designing and developing ICT based application media. This research was conducted on tenth grade students of  SMALB Muhammadiyah Jombang. The researcher selected listening as the target skill and employed the Research & Development (R&D) method, specifically utilizing the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). Data collection involved interviews and questionnaires,and data analysis techniques were employed to calculate scores using the Likert scale techniques. The material validation questionnaires obtained 92% rating in the “Very good” category. While the media validation obtained was 91 % rating same category “Very good”. After implementation with student, the final result was 89% ,also falling under the “Very good” category. Based on these findings,it can be concluded that ELMED (English Listened Mentally Disable) can effectively assist mentally disabled students in improving their English listening skills.

Introduction

             English is widely as global language in various countries, serving as an essential component of education. English is one of the core subjects with the basic communication. These skills in English included listening, reading,writing,and speaking. In the four subject, material that must be mastered by student is listening skills. Listening is a receptivity that enable understand of what heard and give the listener full partnership in the communication process.

This research, research in SMALB Muhammadiyah Jombang student mentally disable. One of main problem of students mental disabilities is to learn late and forget remember word. Typically learning mental disabilities observed in student are caused the various difficult during information processing and such student many have problem what the issues like reading and listening. For this reason, the researcher designing media ICT as a mean of support the English learning process. This ELMED (English Listened Mentally Disable) application to supporting and help students feel comfortable in the process of learning English especially listening.

Research Methods

Of this research uses Research and Development. Research and Development a basic research activity obtain information on user needs and method are research methods used to produce certain products, and test the effectiveness of these products. And designed media using ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). During the analysis stage, the researcher interview with English subject teachers. The researcher prepares a set questions for the interviews, which are conducted to gather data from both teachers and students. This study, the researchers involved 4 students with mental disable in tenth grade senior high school at SMALB Muhammadiyah. In design stage, the researchers designs a product for learning media. The researchers designed media using Power point hyperlink, I spring and Web APK Builder. The researcher develop media according to design. After the product developed, the researcher goes to four experts for validation. Implementation stage, the researcher implement product has been developed in tenth grade senior high school at SMALB Muhammadiyah Jombang with 4 students. The product trial offline and after the product tested students respond. Evaluation, the researcher see student are interested using media and evaluate in product improve the product.


Research Finding ,Discussion and Implementation

             Result Analysis the researcher conducted research in school. Researcher choose SMALB Muhammadiyah Jombang. Media into application can be dowloaded in adroid. Result of Design application used to create ELMED are PowerPoint,Ispring Suite 10, and APK Builder. Result of Development the researcher completed validation in media experts and material experts. The result of questionnaire analyzed using Likert scale. From first media experts gets 91% which is included in the category very good. From second media experts gets 91% which is included in the category very good.  And from material experts first get 81% included in category was very good. From material experts second get 92% included in category was very good. From implementation data, the percentage obtained 89%, which falls under the category of very good.


Conclusion

It means media and material in ELMED (English Listened Mentally Disable) can be tested and help for student mentally disable in SMALB Muhammadiyah Jombang especially listening skills.
